-Hello Jorens! How are you?
Hello, I'm fine as always, thanks.
-You are new in the city of Växjo, what do you think of your new hometown?
Actually I have been here before couple times, it was when my brother Kaspars lived here and played for Osters. Växjo is very nice and beautiful place, definitely much calmer than my home city Riga. It's different and I like it.
-Can you tell me a little bit more about your background as fotballplayer in Latvia (When you started to play fotball, which team you have played for, etc.)?
I started early, I think that I was 5 years old. I went to biggest club in Latvia at that time - Skonto Riga. I think after first two trainings I already quit that team, but I liked football, I loved it and I still do. After couple months dad took me to the FK AUDA - so there I played till this day when I joined to Rydaholms GoIF. But it's very long history with FK AUDA - I played for different youth teams there until year 2006 and was captain from 2001 - 2005, I even played with boys who were 3 years older. And in 2006 I had conflict with youth team coach (I was 14 the I think) and the 1st team coach took me to the first team - I felt there great, because I knew everyone there - my brother Kaspars played with those players and other brother Rihards then was in the team and actually he is there still.
So I took that opportunity and it worked out very well. It was very hard to train with men team and it was bad year for the team - a lot of players left team then so I had very big role in season for only 14 years old boy in 2nd highest divison in Latvia. In 2007 (I was 15) I played in FK AUDA starting-eleven and we finished in 3rd place - it was great season. I also featured in eight Latvia U-17 friendly games. I also went with national team to the Baltic cup that summer, but unfortunately I got injury day before so doctor sent me home. In 2008 I featured only in one match for U-18 and had average season with FK AUDA, but had a summer full of work, because I went to trials in England. I was in Blackpool FC and Queens Park Rangers youth teams. Both said that want to sign me, but I really don't know what happened there and why I didin't went back there...
In 2009 again average season with FK AUDA. In 2010 I played my 100th game for my mother club "FK AUDA" first team, it was my dream and I did it in age of 18, so I realized that I have to leave the club and try something else... 2011 started with trials in Latvia top division clubs - I had two offers to from Latvian top division (also had couple options in Sweden), but I always thought that I will leave my mother club only for club abroad - so thanks to Yevgeni Kuznetsov, Rydaholms GoIF and my representative im here.
-What things do you hope to improve during the time in Rydaholm?
Actually now I want to settle down in Rydaholm and in other country. Because I always had problems to settle in new collective, that's why I didin't stay in Latvia. So I'm trying to change that. And now it's working pretty well. I have to finish school in Latvia, so I think this is good place to start my foreign career and combine it with school stuff. I will be free from school in July and then I will see - can I play, can I play better and if there's any bigger offer for me. I have ambitions, my dream is to play in England, but it's such a long way - I hope that I have chosen the right place to start the journey. But right now I'm at Rydaholms GoIF and I'm totally concentrated to the job with Rydaholm lads!
-I know you have a brother who plays professional fotball in Englands second division and the national team, is that a dream you have in the future to play as a professional?
Definitely I want to achieve what Kaspars have, maybe even more, but I have to be realistic - at the start I have to do my job down here and maybe someday with my hard work and little bit of luck hopefully I will be some where near to that. I know how hard Kaspars worked and that's amazing. Now he is captain of national team and that's a great achievement, but I think if I would have to chose, I would take a place in English league football.
-You've been in Rydaholm for a several weeks now, what is the main difference between Rydaholm GOIF and the clubs you've represent back in Latvia?
It's hard to compare my Latvian club with Rydaholm GoIF, because FK AUDA is good organized club, so I would just compare with Latvian clubs...
Football level in division 3 is similar to Latvian 2nd (1.liga where I played) division mid-table team level. But in Sweden here is a lot of great individual players, I have seen couple here, who could play in Latvia top division. That would be the first one - good individual players.
Second it's organization - a lot of Latvian clubs don't have their own stadium, biggest part of clubs play all season on artificial pitches and then there comes the crowd at games - in Latvia average there is 100 people in stadium on match day...
I don't want to challenge coach, but in Latvia physical trainings were harder! And in Latvia there wasn't to similar football trainings in one week.
And then there is web sites and that kind of stuff, in Latvia lot of clubs think that it's still 1960 and there is no need to exist on internet.
That's what can I remember at the moment...
-Lastly, what can the crazy fans at Kungshall expect from you on the pitch when the league starts up?
I think that it would be okay to expect good defending from me and clean sheet every game, but hopefully they are not waiting some kind of magic from me, I'm still learning my football.
But better would be to expect nothing from me - so they will be more supprised (in good way), when they will see me in action!
I will do my best for Rydaholms GoIF!
-Thank you Jorens and good luck!
You're welcome! Cheers
Återkommer med ytterligare intervjuer i veckan!
#12
Daniel your a great reporter! Good luck this year Jorens! I hope Rydaholm keeps clean sheet in every game :)
Tackar!
